Babies First Home Sweet Home
Hello! I'm Aoife, Buyer in Bella Baby, Mom to 3-year-old Mila and 1-year-old Max. Or as my husband Rob refers to them "The Destructicons".
Preparing for baby’s arrival really is a rollercoaster of emotions! Exciting, overwhelming, fun and sometimes scary; it can be hard knowing where to start. In this blogpost we focus on babies first space, whether it’s in their own nursery, or a cosy corner of your bedroom. Bringing baby home from the hospital to their first ‘home sweet home’ is a day you’ll never forget.
Assess your space
Whether you live in an apartment or a house, babies first home will be filled with love from the moment they arrive home. By assessing how much space you have for where baby will sleep and the storage they will need, this will help you focus on what is really necessary to buy before they arrive. If you have a smaller space you might consider a bedside crib or cosleeper. Cosleepers are smaller than traditional cots and cotbeds, but slightly larger than a moses basket. They can be safely attached to your own bed or be used free standing. Using a cosleeper has been known to improve both baby’s and parents’ quality of sleep as it eliminates the need to physically get up out of bed to tend to your little one, they are within arm’s reach. And we’re all for getting more sleep any chance we can!
If you have a larger space to play with, a cotbed is a great investment as it is larger than your traditional cot, therefore you will get longer out of it and most cotbeds convert into toddler beds. Coordinating dressers and wardrobes provide great storage solutions for those tiny adorable outfits! Speaking of solutions, our range of sleeping aids will help with a peaceful night’s sleep for everyone.
Changing time!
When you are changing up to 12 nappies a day, or more on a particularly 'lucky' day, then you will be thankful for a changing unit. Whether it is a cot top changer, changer with integrated bath or a dresser changer, creating a changing station at approximately hip height will save your knees and back from some serious aches and pains!
It also means you have a permanent home for babies changing time essentials; nappies, wipes, muslins, towels etc so when you are faced with a nappy explosion, you know where to run to take care of the situation!
Colour theme
A recent snapchat poll we took revealed that 36% of our followers chose to find out the gender of their babies, while 64% decided to wait for the surprise. The trend in nursery furniture and travel systems has seen a huge increase in neutral palettes, in particular various tones of grey.
We have seen that our mums and dads are opting for more neutral palettes before baby and then adding their highlight colour after baby arrives. Ivory and white have always been the core colours in nursery furntiure but in the last year grey tones have become increasingly popular.
From dark hazy greys to lighter pebble greys, the grey option offers a modern, neutral and stunningly stylish nursery palette. Add to that some gorgeous interiors with highlight colours and you are well on your way to some seriously instagrammable nursery inspo hashtags!
