Ways to Improve Your Child’s Development When Indoors
Whenever we are faced with a lot of time being spent indoors, whether it’s over the school holidays or during a crisis; keeping little ones occupied and educated can be difficult. We have put together some top tips and ideas on how to improve your child’s development at different ages when you’re restricted to spending time indoors!
Stimulate Their Senses
Occupying your baby from day one can be not only useful for you as parents as it allows you time to yourself to get those all-important jobs done, but it is also beneficial for them from a development perspective. If your baby is under 6 months, then we recommend investing in a stylish and interactive playmat or ‘baby gym’ for your baby as these are a great toy for using during ‘tummy time’ and they can also stimulate your baby’s senses thanks to their mobile designs. Many playmats are easily adaptable to your baby’s size and age as well. Nurture your baby’s innate ability for exploration, with the peace of mind that they are both safe and comfortable.

Take the Opportunity to Toilet Train
If your little one is between the ages of 2 and 4 and you’re spending a large amount of time in the house, it’s the perfect opportunity to try and toilet train your child. As children are most comfortable in their home, and you will have all of the facilities available to help them, it’s the perfect way to pass time and also help your child develop. You can shop for all of our toilet training products here.
You can also make this time in your child’s life as fun as possible by setting up some kind of rewards system, this will also help them to behave whilst they’re stuck in the house. Try introducing new educational toys they can play with, each time they reach a new milestone. Not only will they then be more motivated to become toilet trained, but they will also be occupied with both learning and playing, taking up a lot of the free time you may be currently faced with.
Support them with their Speech
One of the best ways to help your toddler’s speech development, and keep them entertained when indoors is by reading to them. Research shows that reading to your infant daily helps improve their literacy and speaking skills as it stimulates a part of the brain allowing them to understand the meaning of certain words and language. It also helps improve and develop their social skills and can encourage their imagination and is a great way to spend some quality time together.
